Signposts Along the Way: Signpost 11 – Part 1 of 3: The Lord At Work

5 Sep

In the months to follow, we followed Father DiOrio all over the northeast. We arrived in droves bringing caravans of sick and needy children and adults to his services. Miraculously, many were healed, touched and saved. Through prayer, Jesus’ healing power was released and received. Jesus was worshiped and adored and His presence was manifested at each service.

We invited friends from all over with all backgrounds. At one of the services, a couple whom I had known for a many years brought their 12 year old daughter, Jilla and their younger son, Jon.  Jilla, who was deaf from birth, could not hear any sounds at all and could communicate only through sign language.

Towards the end of the service, as Father DiOrio was speaking, I noticed some commotion where Jilla and Jon were sitting. I could see Jilla frantically signing to her brother and pointing to her ears. Not understanding sign language, I could only infer through her excitement that something was going on with her hearing.

As I moved closer to the kids, I could finally understand what was happening. Jilla suddenly started to hear faint sounds in both of here ears! Having never been able to hear sounds, she was imitating the noises that she was hearing.

Jon couldn’t contain himself and was stretching over Jilla to get their parent’s attention (who were seated a few chairs away).  When Jilla’s mom finally understood what had happened, she erupted with joy and started crying and hugging her daughter. Her dad was just as ecstatic and the entire family huddled into one, giant group hug. The sight was to be seen.

Soon her healing was more than obvious throughout the service as an usher came over to verify what was happening. Father D’Orio, soon became aware of Jilla’s gift and publicly rejoiced in her new ability to hear “her first sounds.”

Jilla’s parents  remained in shock. They had never been to anything like this service and they certainly did not expect anything to happen to them that day. They were taken totally by surprise. In fact, none of us could contain ourselves. Rowdy may have been a good description for our behavior.  We watched for the rest of the service as Jon would speak to Jilla and make all kinds of noises for her to imitate. It was amazing. We all had tears in our eyes just knowing how beautiful this miracle was.

That day we had witnessed Jesus’ miraculous healing power at work. It happened right before our very eyes…and right before Jilla’s very ears.
